Federal govt mulling over governor rule in Punjab: sources

ISLAMABAD: The coalition government has started mulling over the imposition of governor rule in Punjab after the success of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to regain power in the province, citing sources, ARY News reported on Saturday. The federal government prepared another plan to weaken the PTI government in Punjab and started mulling over the imposition of governor rule in the province. ‘Centre working with Balochistan govt to provide relief to people’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asserted that the Centre was working with Balochistan government to provide relief to the people after heavy rains and floods unleashed devastation in the province, ARY News reported. Shikarpur man kills mother for not giving food on time

SHIKARPUR: In a shocking incident, a Shikarpur man allegedly killed his elderly mother after she failed to cook food for him on time, ARY News reported on Saturday. According to police, the incident occurred in the native village of Shikarpur district of Sindh. Met office predicts more rains in various parts of country

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rains/thundershowers in various parts of the country during the next 24 hours. In a statement, the met office said more rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, north and eastern Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours. PESHAWAR: At least 20 people, including 12 children, were killed and 35 injured in torrential rains and rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the last 10 days, ARY News reported on Saturday. KECH: Six terrorists were killed while a Pakistan Army soldier embraced martyred during an operation conducted by security forces in the general area of Hoshab, district Kech, the military’s media wing said on Friday. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday released schedule for by-elections on three Punjab vacant seats, two in the Punjab Assembly and one from National Assembly, ARY News reported. According to a statement issued by the election body, the by-elections on NA-157 Multan, PP-139 Sheikhupura, and PP-241 Bahawalnagar constituencies will be held on September 11. As per schedule, the public notice will be issued by the Returning Officer (RO) on August 2 while candidates can file nomination papers from August 3 to August 5. The ECP will publish a final list of nominated candidates by August 6. The last date for filing of appeals against RO decisions regarding nomination papers will be August 16. Pakistan Army continues rescue, relief efforts in flood-hit areas

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army troops are assisting the civil administration in rescue and relief efforts in the flood-affected areas of Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan (GB), according to the military’s media wing. In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Army and Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan Emergency Response teams were constantly busy in dewatering, and supplying basic food necessities and medical care to the affected population. The accumulated rainwater was being drained from the affected areas through dewatering pumps and tankers. “More than 700 families trapped during floods in Bolan, Lasbela, Othal and Jhal Magsi and Ghizer were shifted to safe places,” ISPR said. Met Office predicts more rains for Sindh

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday predicted more rains in Sindh, including Karachi, from today till Friday. “The low-pressure area causing widespread heavy rains in Sindh has moved westward, towards the Oman coast. Karachi’s DC south succumbs to burn injuries

DUBAI: Karachi’s deputy commissioner (DC) south Abdul Sattar Isani, who was severely burnt in a gas leakage fire, succumbed to his injuries, ARY News reported. KARACHI: Jammat-e-Islami (JI) has sent a Rs500 million legal notice to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for accusing the party of filing an application for postponement of second phase of local government (LG) elections in Sindh, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to details, the notice – worth Rs 500 million – was served by Jammat-e-Islami’s Public Aid Committee. In the notice, the JI has asked the electoral watchdog to ‘apologise’ for accusing the party of filing an application for postponement of second phase of Sindh LG elections.
