Delay in general elections: ECP rejects media reports

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of media reports regarding an expected delay in the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2023, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The ECP spokesperson clarified that such media reports regarding an expected delay in the general elections 2024 were baseless and misleading. The spokesperson categorically rejected the rumours. The spokesperson said that the commission decided to approach the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against the media houses for spreading the fake reports. It added that legal action will be taken against those who spread the misleading reports. The commission sought transcripts and recordings of such media reports to pursue legal action. Two terrorists gunned down in Kalat IBO

RAWALPINDI: Two terrorists have been gunned down in an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) in Kalat Balochistan, ARY News reported quoting ISPR. According to ISPR, the security forces conducted an Intelligence Based Operation in Kalat Balochistan. The killed terrorists remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well the innocent civilians. ISLAMABAD: Humayun Dilawar, a district and sessions court judge who convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, was appointed as a Special Judge Central II, ARY News reported on Monday. The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification regarding the appointment of Humayun Dilawar as Special Judge Central II in Islamabad for the period of three years. DHAKA: Bangladesh cricket superstar Shakib Al Hasan has formally entered politics and will contest parliamentary elections as he received confirmation of his nomination from the ruling Awami League. According to a report, Awami League joint secretary general Bahauddin Nasim confirmed the development, saying that the all-rounder took nomination forms on Saturday from the party to contest 2024 election. Karachi cop’s body with slit-throat found

KARACHI: A throat-slit body of a Karachi cop was found in Malir, ARY News reported on Sunday. The Malir police said they received a call on Madadgar 15 about the presence of a dead body near Malir City. Markets, shops to remain closed today

LAHORE: The Punjab government has ordered closure of markets and shops in six divisions of Punjab province, witnessing dangerously high smog levels, ARY News reported on Saturday. According to a notification, the markets and shops in six divisions of Punjab will remain closed on Sunday (today) as part of provincial government’s efforts to address the increasing levels of smog. The closure will be enforced in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala and Hafizabad divisions of the province. The notification further stated that restaurants and other eateries will be allowed to open after 04:00pm. Gold price registers another drop in Pakistan

The gold price has registered another drop of Rs650 per tola to settle at Rs 215,850 per tola in Pakistan on Thursday. The price of 24-karat gold has decreased by Rs650 to settle at Rs215,850 per tola. Sub-leasing of properties: Sindh takes major decision

KARACHI: The caretaker Sindh government has decided to ban the sub-leasing of all properties of the Auqaf Department. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Auqaf Department held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Law and Auqaf Muhammad Omar Soomro here Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Secretary Auqaf Munawer Ali Mahessar, Chief Administrator Mumtaz Chana, Additional Secretary and other officers. KARACHI: Three policemen have been arrested for allegedly harassing documented foreigners in Karachi, ARY News reported on Tuesday. RAWALPINDI: A wanted terrorist ring leader, Ibrahim alias Musa was killed among four other terrorists on Saturday during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by the security forces on the reported presence of terrorists in the general area, Khaisoor of North Waziristan District, ARY News reported. KARACHI: The murder mystery of biomechanical engineer Sohaib Nisar has been solved by Karachi police, ARY News reported.  Sohaib Nisar, the only son of his parents was shot dead in Sachal Scheme 33 area of Karachi. NASEERABAD: Unidentified assailants carried out a hand grenade attack on a police van in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district on Friday, ARY News reported. ISLAMABAD: The non-filers would face the disconnection of utility connections including electricity and gas, as well as the blocking of mobile SIMs if return is not filed in response to notices issued, ARY News quoted FBR statement. Power consumers to bear Rs12b burden due to DISCOs ‘quota violation’

ISLAMABAD: The power consumers will bear an additional financial burden of Rs12 billion due to ‘quota violations’ of the electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), ARY News reported on Thursday. The documents obtained by ARY News showed that DISCOs withdrew less electricity by up to 47.28% from their fixed quota from July 2023 to September 2023. The ‘quota violations’ by the DISCOs would increase an additional financial burden worth Rs12 billion on the power consumers. Schools, offices to remain closed on Nov 18 as Punjab battels smog

LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced that schools and offices across the province would remain closed on November 18 (Saturday) as the province steps up efforts to curb smog, ARY News reported. Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city with a population of 11 million, continues to be either on top or among the top three most polluted cities due to large-scale smog. The announcement came after CM Mohsin Naqvi chaired a meeting of provincial Cabinet Committee on smog. “Schools and government offices will be closed in Lahore on Saturdays while markets will open after 3 pm on Saturdays,” he said, adding that the measures were taken to cope with the smog challenge. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Rana Tanveer Hussain said Monday that PML-N would not give a place to any Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, ARY News reported. KARACHI: In a shocking incident, a man’s body was found hanging from a tree near Hill Park Karachi, ARY News reported.  As per details, the deceased man whose body was retrieved from a tree has been identified as 58-year-old Massih.
