PTI’s Raja Azhar sends defamation notice to MQM-P’s Amir Khan

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raja Azhar Khan has sent a defamation notice to Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Amir Khan regarding a case related to a clash at the political party’s office in Karachi’s Korangi, ARY News reported on Tuesday. The legal notice stated that MQM-P’s Amir Khan had levelled false allegations against Raja Azhar Khan for his alleged involvement in a clash at the political party’s office in Korangi. It added that the MQM-P leader also mentioned Azhar’s name in a press conference. The legal notice further stated that Amir Khan should prove his allegation against Raja Azhar Khan within a week or pay Rs10 million in damages, otherwise, a legal action will be pursued against him. Govt sets up flood relief helpline

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Technology (MOIT) Tuesday established an emergency helpline 911 for flood-hit people across the country, ARY News reported. The flood victims have been asked to report needed assistance such as medicine or food through the national emergency helpline 911. Tens of millions of people across swathes of Pakistan were battling the worst monsoon floods in a decade, with countless homes washed away, vital farmland destroyed, and the country’s main river threatening to burst its banks. NEW YORK: After disastrous torrential rains and floods, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced to visit Pakistan on September 9. The UN chief’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement that Antonio Guterres will pay a solidarity visit to flood-hit Pakistan on September 9. Dujarric said, “With the tragic situation facing millions of men, women and children impacted by historic floods in Pakistan, the Secretary-General will travel to the country next week for a solidarity visit.” Guterres is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Friday from where he will be accompanied by Pakistani officials for visiting the flood-affected areas and reviewing the relief activities. Death toll from floods in Sindh climbs to 405

KARACHI: With three more fatalities in the past 24 hours, the overall death toll from floods unleashed by torrential rains surged to 405 in the province since mid-June, according to the statistics issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority. Shikarpur reported the most number of fatalities where at least 66 people lost their lives to flood-related incidents. Out of the total number of deaths, 154 were men, 69 women and 160 children, revealed the statistics. In addition to this, 1055 people suffered injuries in the flood-related incidents, the PDMA added. The PDMA report stated that approximately 305,152 houses were completely destroyed while the infrastructure of 613,321 houses was damaged. Onion, tomato imports: Govt decides to issue permit within 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to issue the permit within 24 hours for importing the stocks of onion and tomato at the earliest, ARY News reported on Tuesday. The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has decided to issue import permit for onions and tomatoes within 24 hours. The ministry forwarded the recommendations to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). According to the food ministry, taxes and levies will not be imposed on the imports of onions and tomatoes. ISLAMABAD: The National Flood Response and Relief Centre has been established by the federal government following the decision of the coalition parties in a session chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, ARY News reported on Monday. LAHORE: Punjab cabinet has announced to donate one-month salary to the flood victims, ARY News reported on Monday. Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi chaired the second session of the provincial cabinet today. Lahore: Girl, 10, allegedly raped, murdered in private swimming pool

LAHORE: A 10-year-old namely Maria has allegedly been raped and murdered in a private swimming pool in Lahore’s Sharifpura area in the vicinity of Manawan police station, ARY News reported on Sunday. Maria along with his brother and her younger sister went to a private swimming pool and later went missing, the first information report (FIR) stated. The owner of the private swimming pool, Ali Raza told the family that she went to her home, however, the family did not find the girl despite searching everywhere. Balochistan floods: Two more dead, tally reaches 244

QUETTA: The death toll from torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan has risen to 244 as two more people have lost their lives during the past 24 hours, ARY News reported on Sunday. According to the latest PDMA report, 244 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Balochistan since June 1. Further, the authority said that several roads and bridges were washed away by floods. It said rains had damaged over 61,000 houses in the province since June 1, out of which 10,129 were partially damaged and 3,406 were completely destroyed. Elderly woman forced to live in rickshaw after home ruined by flood

SUKKUR: Heavy flooding across the country has damaged hundreds of houses, leaving people scrambling to find homes. People were living in tents, schools, and even under the open sky. Quetta: Two more people have been reported dead amid heavy rains and floods in Balochistan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported. According to details, PDMA told on Tuesday that five more people were reported dead amid heavy rains and floods in the province taking the tally to 242. A total of 116 men, 55 women, and 71 children have lost their lives to floods and related incidents in Balochistan. Moreover, over 102 people suffered injuries due to floods in the past three days. A total of 1,45,936 cattle have also been reported dead in the floods, PDMA data shows. KP govt sets up relief fund for flood affectees

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan announced on Saturday establishing a relief fund for the assistance of flood-affected people, appealing to the citizens, especially the philanthropists, to generously donate to it. SWAT: The district administration has closed all educational institutions across the Swat district due to the devastation caused by flash flooding generated by abnormal monsoon rains, ARY News reported. KP govt dedicates two helicopters for relief activities

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has dedicated its two helicopters for the flood relief activities, ARY News reported on Friday. The KP authorities were continuing relief activities in the affected districts by floods. The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an alert in view of a high flood level in the Indus River within 48 hours at Kalabagh, Chasma and Taunsa, ARY News reported on Friday. Bank manager shot dead in Karachi

A bank manager was shot dead by armed men outside the private bank in Karachi North Nazimabad area here on Thursday, ARY News reported. According to police, the incident occurred in North Nazimabad’s Khadija market when armed men opened fire on a bank manager and fled the scene. Pak Army, cabinet to donate one-month salary for flood victims

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army officers and all federal cabinet members have announced to donate one month’s salary to flood victims. According to the statement issued by military’s media wing, army officers have deposited one month’s salary in the flood relief fund while others are also giving financial donations on a voluntary basis. “All General Officers of the Pakistan Army (all Brigadiers, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals) have donated one month’s pay to go towards relief and humanitarian aid/ration packages for flood-affected families in Pakistan,” the ISPR statement read. Foreign woman nabbed after recovery of cocaine at Karachi airport

KARACHI: A foreign woman was arrested at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after the recovery of 1,900-gram cocaine from her luggage, ARY News reported on Thursday. Customs officials arrested a foreign woman, a Ugandan citizen, after seizing 1,900-gram cocaine hidden inside secret pockets of a bag. The foreigner travelled from Uganda to Karachi en route Dubai via PK-214. The Customs spokesperson said that the seized cocaine was worth more than Rs45 million in the international market. A case was registered against the foreign national and further investigation is underway. In April, the Customs officials had foiled a foreign currency smuggling bid at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. 65,000 US dollars, approximately around Rs12 million, had been recovered from the baggage of a woman passenger who was travelling to Doha. ECP employees to donate salaries to flood relief operations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced to donate one day’s salary of employees from grades 7 to 16 for rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas, ARY News reported. According to details, the ECP has announced to donate one day’s salary of employees from grade 7 to 16 and two days’ salary of employees from grade 17 to 22 to relief and rescue operations in the country. Minor girl burnt to death by neighbours in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was burnt to death in Islamabad’s Kohsar Town on Wednesday, ARY News reported. According to the FIR lodged by father of the victim with the Kirpa Police Station, his seven-year daughter went to a neighbour’s house along with her family including her grandmother, mother, and sister to attend Quran Khwani.
