Ashura being observed across Pakistan amid tight security

Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is being observed across the country with due solemnity on Saturday to pay homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and other martyrs of Karbala amid strict security.

The day marks the undeterred resilience of the Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family and devoted companions who all fought to uphold Islam amid opposition and cruelty.

In this connection, mourning processions are being taken out in all cities and towns of the country.

Ulema and zakireen will highlight various aspects of the Karbala tragedy in their sermons.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the nation to avoid any untoward incident and offer safety to mourners during the processions.

Meanwhile, mobile signals remain shut in several cities following interior ministry’s directions to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) seeking suspension of mobile services not only on Muharram 9 and 10, but 11 as well.

The Southwest or the Asian Summer Monsoon is essentially a colossal sea breeze that brings South Asia 70-80 percent of its annual rainfall between June and September every year. It occurs when summer heat warms the landmass of the subcontinent, causing the air to rise and sucking in cooler Indian Ocean winds which then produce enormous volumes of rain. Why it is important? The monsoon is vital for agriculture and therefore for the livelihoods of millions of farmers and for food security in the poor region of around two billion people. But it brings destruction every ye...
